Hand held barcode verifiers are used to spot check the print quality of barcode labels. Usually, when a large batch of barcode labels is printed, the hand held verifier is used to check a label printed at the beginning, end, and somewhere in the middle. If a barcode printer has been allowed to sit idle for some time, the first labels need to be checked since dust can collect on the label or ribbon and adversely affect the print quality. Also at the end of a print job, particularly a large batch, the labels should be checked in case the extra heat generated by the hard-working printer has affected the print quality. Hand held barcode verifiers can print receipts with the test results when connected to a special receipt printer. There is also software that allows the verifier to upload the test results to a PC and then creates reports which can be saved and sent to customers or vendors.
